The Commandant of the Police Academy College Wudil, Kano State, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Ahmad Abdulrahman, has urged the Nigerian Military to make use of the existential local fighters in curbing the rising banditry bedevilling Kaduna State.
According to the Daily Trust, the police college commandant charged the security agencies to work with the 30,000 Coalition Joint Task Force members in the State to fight banditry and other crimes ransacking it.
According to him, the JTF members are forces to reckon with in the fight against crimes and other social vices in the country.
AIG Abdulrahman disclosed this shortly after being recognised as one of the patrons of the JTF in Kaduna State at the Unity Parade and Special prayers event organized by the Coalition of the JTF to mark the 62 Independence anniversary of Nigeria held in the state.
He noted that when he was the state commissioner of Police, he worked with the JTF members and found them to be loyal and committed to the fight against crime.
He urged the leadership of the security agencies; military, and DSS fighting kidnappers and bandits to use the members of the JTF because they are trained by the State police command.
“I’m appealing to soldiers, police, and DSS to use these men because engaging them means having the support of 30,000 men. I have tested and trust them and will use them again if given the opportunity,” he said.
He also sighted the role the Coalition JTF members played in the year 2019 general elections when they assisted other conventional security agencies to maintain law and others across the state.
In his remarks, Coalition JTF State Chairman Engineer Shehu Usman Dan Tudu said the Unity Parade was held to promote the synergy and harmonious relationships among various organizations offering security services voluntarily in the state
According to him, as Coalition JTF members they are only assisting police to fight crime in their communities through community policing.
He urged the government and other organizations to assist the group with tools to enable them to discharge their job diligently.
