It is important that the activities of those leaving in search of greener pastures do exacerbate the existing situation in the country. These doctors and nurses want to “japa” and at the same time keep collecting salaries from the FMC. Why?
- These are the same people saying that Nigeria isn’t working, but the truth is that they are an integral part of the challenges the country is facing today. Zero patriotism, zero Integrity!
- The exit strategy (japa) for these doctors and nurses is to seek out admission in UK or other European universities and upon admission, instead of them to apply for study leave (with or without pay), leave of absence (of course, this is mostly without pay), or outrightly resign their appointment, they would rather arrange models for salary sharing with HODs/HOUs. This is the reason why despite the massive “japarization” in the sector, the wage bills aren’t reducing in same proportion – Ghost Workers!
- Unlike the postulation of some persons that FMC Abeokuta is notorious for its hostility to staff and patients alike. The position cannot be farther from the truth especially as it relates to the patients. Why will there not be hostility when only 2 doctors and 4 nurses are on duty are attending to over 200? Why will there not be hostility? This position does not give credence to the reason why staff exit (absconding, abandonment of duty or resignation) should not be properly documented. Exit documentation will show Manning gaps and these will be filled appropriately.
- Indeed, no right thinking organisation (public or private) will allow the rate of turnover of nurses within their facility. So if the use of auxiliary nurses under strict supervision will bring some stability in service delivery… Well! They say necessity is the mother of invention. I hope supervision is indeed strict; let someone not inject an IV inject as if it is IM oh!

- Abraham OdikeWhile I agree with you that we are largely our own problem in Nigeria, I have to agree with those who rate FMC Abeokuta as a hostile environment especially to patients and I am speaking from experience that predates this current “Japa” wave by decades
