On the 22nd of November, 2018, at about 10am, I walked to the police CID office on Gabasawa road, off independence way Kaduna with my elder brother to answer the call of officer Gani that I, Segun Onibiyo bought a stolen phone (their trick to lure me to report at their station). I no kuku tiff, I not kii person. I show fully, like man wey I be.
From him showing me their supposed evidence that I made a post on Facebook against the person of gov Nasir Elrufai to asking me to write a statement, to the man in charge at the ministry of justice coming to the station, to taking me before their director, who says he knows me, to them hurriedly taking me before a magistrate, who said I should be remanded in the Kaduna Maximum Prison- because according to the prosecutors, “if you let the police keep him in their custody, he’ll be released on bail and he may tamper with evidence”. Just after finding out I am a broadcast journalist with a federal government media organization.
I spent 27 days at the Kaduna Maximum Prison even without a court finding me guilty then and never till date.
It has been back and forth since 2018, with my accusers trying to take my job, conniving with naysayers to tell lies to discredit my person, making attempts on my life and so on.
It has been a rough and tough 4 years for me but I thank God Almighty for His steadfast love, provision and protection.
I thank God too for you my friends who have become family.
You guys are the real MVPs!
You stood by me, fought for me, raised hell and ensured I made bail December 12th and finally released December 18th, 2018.
The trial has been very funny with slippery ‘thorns & roses’ and I thank God for always showing forth.
I am eternally grateful to you my friends – if I do a list, I will be ungrateful to those who never met me but ensured I was sane and alive and feeding.
I return all glory to God, here we are, my accusers are still wondering how God made it impossible for their plans to fall through.
It is 4 years now and looking back, all I have to say is God, you are faithful. To you all, thank you – I am eternally indebted to you. And only God can repay your kindness.
