According to reports, the incident occurred at approximately 1:00 am on Tuesday, June 13, 2023.
It was said the bandits deliberately targeted the students, who were residing in a private hostel near the former Nigerian School of Accountancy along Bauchi Ring Road in the Jos North local government area, and were diligently preparing for their ongoing second-semester examinations.
Sources said the assailants, estimated to be around five in number, forcefully infiltrated the hostel premises. Bursting into the students’ study room, they forcibly took them into a waiting vehicle before rapidly fleeing the scene.
A student residing in another private hostel disclosed that the kidnappers gained access to the premises, brandishing their weapons to hold the terrified students captive for nearly half an hour.
It was only after the abductors departed that other hostel residents, who had been aware of the invasion, cautiously emerged from their quarters. The students promptly reported the incident to the local police authorities and the University of Jos administration.
On Wednesday, representatives from the university visited the off-campus hostel to gather firsthand information about the shocking incident.
Meanwhile, a source close to one of the victims revealed that the kidnappers contacted the student’s family in the early hours of Wednesday, demanding an undisclosed amount of ransom for the safe release of the captives.
Plateau State Police spokesman DSP Alfred Alabo confirmed the distressing abduction, assuring the public that law enforcement officers are diligently searching the surrounding areas to locate and rescue the abducted students.
