WAEC EXPOSES DISCREPANCIES IN UMO ENO’s RESULTS.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has exposed some discrepancies in Pastor Umo Eno’s claims concerning his results obtained from the institution in 1981 and 1983.
Barr Adekanbi Olaolu, a senior Legal Officer of the body, while testifying before the Governirship Petition Tribunal in Uyo, said the name entries for 1981 and 1983 were different.
While he identified candidate Bassey Umo Eno in 1981 in the WAEC’s “result listing,” the one for 1983 was identified as Eno Umo Bassey.
Asked if it was possible for WAEC to issue one candidate the same identification number in two examination, Olaolu initially said “it’s not possible for WAEC to issue two separate certificates in respect of one candidate but with same number.” Later, he said “it would be rare to have the same candidate to have same candidate number from WAEC”.
WAEC was subpoenaed to supply the court with information concerning Umo Eno’s certificates for the 1981, 1983 and 1998 examinations.
While the body supplied the 1981 May/June and Nov/ Dec 1983 results, it however said the one for 1998 was not made available because the subpoena request had “no unique identification number in form of school name, candidate or centre number.” Copies of both 1981 and 1983 results were admitted in exhibit.
In case of loss or damage of certificate, according to the WAEC legal officer, candidates are always advised to apply for attestation of certificates.
He specifically said WAEC does not issue certified true copies (CTC) in respect of missing or damages certificates. That destroys Umo Eno’s claim to CTC of some of his WAEC certificates, which he also claims were missing.
According to Olaolu, to determine the genuineness of Umo Eno’s certificate or any certificate, the relevant departments of the institution like the Registry Department must be involved in the verification.
He admitted that as of 1981, certificates issued by WAEC did not have photographs as part of their features.
Earlier, Dr Ime Akpabio, Director of Academic Affairs of University of Uyo, had told the tribunal that Umo Eno did not use the WAEC result of 1998 to gain admission into the university. “He used the certificates of 1981 and 83”, Akpabio claimed.
