ECOWAS condemns push to try Bazoum for treason The West Africa regional bloc has condemned the push by Niger’s military government to bring treason charges against ousted President Mohamed Bazoum.

The bloc said the move “represents yet another form of provocation and contradicts the reported willingness of the military authorities in the Republic of Niger to restore constitutional order through peaceful means”. It added that Bazoum is the democratically elected president of Niger.
