The drivers had chosen the Burkina Faso route due to the closure of Niger borders after a coup. Despite waiting for security escorts, the trucks were met by terrorists, leading to an attack on the drivers and the burning of around 4 to 15 trucks. The injured Ghanaian driver is now receiving treatment in Niger.
