ECOWAS countries, which only recently threatened to imminently invade Niger over its military coup, have quietly been demobilizing troops mobilized for the proposed invasion. French state-owned media RFI reports that across West Africa, troops are being told to return to business as usual. Beninese soldiers previously stationed offensively on the Niger border in the north have now returned to their barracks. In fact, an RFI source from within ECOWAS says that the secret date previously planned for the invasion has already passed. The chief reason, they say, is that the giant of ECOWAS, Nigeria, was forced to back out despite the wishes of President Bola Tinubu.
