23 soldiers killed in terrorist attack, national mourning declared The death toll from a terrorist attack perpetrated Wednesday in the Tillabéry region (western Niger) rose to 23 soldiers killed and 17 others injured, according to a provisional official report published Thursday. The attack, which targeted a military post, also caused the destruction of four armored vehicles and four other Toyotas belonging to the Nigerien army. In response to this tragedy, the Ministry of Defense declared a three-day national mourning starting Friday. Thirty terrorists were killed during the attack, according to Nigerien authorities. Nigerien President General Abdourahamane Tiani condemned the attack and called for the mobilization of the population against terrorism.
