Ndigbo to appear in court in solidarity on 26th September as EEDC sues association for demanding light in SouthEast. SEECA is sued at the Federal high Court 1, Enugu by EEDC.
EEDC are asking the court to stop us from informing the consumers of electricity in the SouthEast of their rights and obligations. They claim that our informative activities in the SouthEast is causing them loses and wants the court to remedy that by awarding them 5billion naira costs.
EEDC have deposed falls and contradictory affidavit to the court and the case is coming up on the 26th September, 2024 . This is coming up at the Federal High Court 1, Enugu.
EEDC is also querying the validity of our registration in court and had gone ahead to threaten the Social Welfare Department of Enugu North LGA to withdraw our certificate of Registration or they will sue them for N5billion naira. This is of no consequence at all, as if without registration, we cannot associate, express ourselves for our common good as the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria stipulates.
Our offence is that we are demanding:-
1. Prepaid meter for electricity consumers in the five SouthEast States, so that we can correctly measure, calculate and manage the electricity we are using. This will also stop the abitrary, outrageous and estimated electricity bills that EEDC and Aba Power Ltd – Geometric are issuing to consumers of electricity in the SouthEast monthly.
2. Stop manipulating, intimdating, bullying and coaxing consumers of electricity in the SouthEast from buying or repairing transformers, wires and cables, poles, prepaid meters, etc as stipulated by National Electricity Regulatory Commission – NERC guidelines. As the above equipments are part of the chains of distribution of electricity and EEDC and Aba Power Ltd-Geometric are in business, they should own it up and provide them. These DisCos are in business.
3. EEDC as declared officially by NERC are owing unmetered electricity consumers in the SouthEast the sum of N11.86billion from January to September, 2023. EEDC have refused to budge and have kept mute in refunding the said Consumers for overbilling, but rather have consistently been overbilling monthly, disconnecting their lights illigally with reckless abandon.
SEECA is using the electronic, print and social media for the first time since the unbundling of PHCN ten years ago, to educate the electricity consumers in the SouthEast of their rights and obligations. This is what EEDC had gone to the Court to stop us doing.
We are calling all users of electricity in the SouthEast and particularly SEECA members in the southeast to appear in solidarity at the court on the said date, 26th September, 2024 by 8am prompt. There must be light to the and in the SouthEast of Nigeria.
