1. The roads into and out of Ekiti are near totally failed. Whether they are federal government roads or not, the un-motorability has a direct effect on Ekiti citizens. The state government can do some immediate relief works in the area of sustaining the near failed roads.
2. The township roads are routinely patched, but within weeks they go bad again!! How long are we going to be wasting resources by being “pound foolish, penny wise”? The quality of road work that has been undertaken is poor.
3. You may even use the just commissioned Ilawe Rd, it’s simply pitiable that such standard of work is being foisted on Ekiti. I’m afraid the state has no quality assurance monitoring unit, or the unit has been compromised.
Bad governance is becoming an insurmountable problem in the body-polity of #EkitiState as far as I’m concerned. Most of the roads purportedly rehabilitated by the Biodun @biodunaoyebanji-led administration were equally rehabilitated by the immediate past administration of Governor Kayode Fayemi. This is really bad. How can we spend so much on road construction and still have 75% of our road network in Ekiti State in a deplorable state?
Sadly, Honourable Sola Adebayo, under whose supervision most of the roads were rehabilitated under JKF2, is still in office as the Commissioner for Works.
Most of the roads still standing and motorable in Ekiti State today were inherited from the military era. However, I cannot believe that the Ekiti State Ministry of Works does not have a Quality Assurance Monitoring Unit to assess the standard of works carried out by the Ministry. We cannot continue like this in Ekiti State. The State House of Assembly, supposed to carry out oversight function of probing into these maladministrations and shambolic project executions in the State, has been largely ineffective and docile in its constitutional responsibilities. Pretty sad though.
