FUOYE VC Should Remain Focused On Primary Duty of Care To All… The Emboldenment Of Timing For The “SSANU” Petition Is Indicative Of Sheer Blackmail- Concerned FUOYE Alumni
A concerned alumni of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) who simply identified himself as Tolu Olatimilehin has described the petition signed and made public by Mr. Ben Faleye, the local branch chairman of Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) and his caucus of SSANU FUOYE, as a cheap blackmail that is both ill-conceived and illl-timed.
Olatimilehin who warned Faleye and his co-conspirators to desist from acts capable of bringing dishonour to the great reputation of the University, also advised him against involving the noble personality of the immediate past Pro-Chancellor of the University, Engr. Olubunmi Kayode Ojo, in his smear campaign against the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina.
The concerned Alumni therefore advised the SSANU caucus leader to rather focus on productive activities and constructive criticism that would bring about the growth and development of the University just as other union members and leaders have been doing.
It would be recalled that Faleye and his caucus of the SSANU FUOYE on Tuesday issued a damaging statement against the person of the VC and made unsubstantiated allegations of sexual harassment, official recklessness and high-handedness against him. But reacting swiftly, other members of a different faction of SSANU and union leaders of NASU, NAAT and CONUA denounced the SSANU factional leader’s claims , stating that on the contrary , Prof. Fasina has proved himself to be an exemplary and astute leader whose progressive leadership style has brought great fortunes to the University. The dissenting union leaders accused Faleye of acting a divisive and dangerous script of his sponsors who have allegedly paid him to spread a campaign of calumny against the person of the VC for selfish political interests .
In a way that appeared like playing to the gallery, the factional SSANU leader in FUOYE , Faleye had also praised Engr. Ojo in the same damaging statement against the VC giving an impression that the revered former FUOYE Pro-Chancellor might be one of the sponsors of his malicious, baseless and false statement.
In a press statement made available to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday evening, Olatimilehin, said:” I read with shock and dismay the damaging statement credited to the leader of SSANU in FUOYE, Mr. Ben Faleye, and I wondered what was going on in his mind when he was penning those evil words against the respected personality of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina. What was more embarrassing about the statement is the mention of the former Pro-Chancellor of the University, Engr. Kayode Ojo and the unsolicited eulogy the union leader and his co-travelers showered on him. Such media damage against the University is not only ill-timed but unwarranted and uncalled for. It is ill-timed and Iil-conceived because it came at a sensitive time Engr. Ojo was exiting the University as her Governing council chairman to heed another clarion call to service to his fatherland in the Federal University Lokoja.
“The union leader and his co-travelers are strongly advised to engage in productive and constructive criticism rather than smear campaign capable of bringing the image of this great University to disrepute. They are strongly advised also to desist from involving the noble personality of the immediate Pro-Chancellor in such cheap blackmail to seek undue relevance. Both the respected Engr Ojo and the succeeding Pro-Chancellor of FUOYE, Sen. Ndoma Egba (SAN) have no time for shenanigans. They are for a peaceful, productive and progressive engagement with the system as characteristic of our dear Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina. The actions of union leaders and members maligning the image of a Chief Executive Officer of a great University like FUOYE is tantamount to disrespect to constituted authority and flagrant abuse of the extant rules that guide proper conduct in a University system. More embarrassing and appalling is an attempt at involving such individuals like my Engr. Ojo with a view to currying favour from him and the new Pro-Chancellor. These disgruntled elements should desist from an attempt to play sycophancy before the new FUOYE pro-chancellor as such reckless actions would not work.
For the records, Kayode Ojo and Sen. Ndoma Egba that we know stand only for justice, equity, fairness, progress, peace and genuine development of FUOYE and abhors divisive and violent actions capable of destroying the system.”
