Governor Soludo Places ₦10 Million Bounty on Killers of Seven in Anambra Burial Attack
Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has announced a ₦10 million reward for information leading to the capture of gunmen responsible for a brutal attack in Ihiala, which left seven people dead. The victims included five security operatives and two civilians.
The attack, which occurred on Monday, targeted a funeral gathering where family members were preparing for a burial ceremony scheduled for January 2. Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants stormed the event and opened fire indiscriminately, resulting in multiple casualties. The gunmen also attacked security personnel stationed near the local government headquarters as they fled the scene, leaving further devastation in their wake.
State Police Command spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident and disclosed that Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Obono Itam has launched a manhunt for the perpetrators.
Reacting to the tragedy, Governor Soludo, while speaking at the burial of the late Bridget Akanma Onuchukwu in Ihiala, called on community leaders to take a stand against criminal activities in their localities.
“Communities must rise now and come together. Those who are doing this are within this Ihiala. If you are a President General, leader, or group leader, gather intelligence on what is happening. We must not let this happen again,” he stated.
The governor also announced the bounty, saying: “Anyone who provides information leading to the arrest of these people will receive ₦10 million from the government. We are placing ₦10 million on the head of each individual involved in this heinous act.”
In an emotional outburst, Governor Soludo placed a curse on the perpetrators, declaring that their lineage would never prosper. “These people who did this, their families, their children, and everything about them will never see any good thing,” he declared.
The attack has sent shockwaves across the state, with many calling for swift justice and stronger measures to curb criminal activities in Anambra. Governor Soludo’s announcement underscores the state government’s commitment to ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice.
