A clash between students and Nigerian soldiers has erupted in Abako, Katsina-Ala LGA of Benue State, leaving a trail of harassment, assault, and violence. The incident began when a soldier allegedly bought unauthorized earrings for a student at Government Day Secondary School Abako, which were seized by the head girl. The situation escalated when the head girl was harassed and assaulted by soldiers at a checkpoint, prompting a teacher to intervene and also get battered.
As news of the incident spread, students mobilized and confronted the soldiers, who responded by firing shots to disperse the crowd. However, the students overpowered them and retaliated with similar violence.
While condemning the students’ actions, it’s equally disturbing to see trained military personnel engaging in such uncivilized and unprofessional behavior. Their duties are to protect and serve, not to harass and harm.
