A young man is going to pass the night at Iponri police station today.
His name is Dent, he is a despatch rider whose bike spoilt few days ago and because he didn’t want to stay idle and because his wife just gave birth, he hit the street regardless and went on his deliveries on foot and jumping buses.
Today, the Nigeria Police Force officers attached to Iponri stopped and searched him, they found parcels in his bag and some of it is herbal products he was delivering for a company.
The products duely has nafdac registration number on it and the first claim was that it wasn’t visible so theu took him to the station, abandoned him at the counter and went for more illegal arrests as usual.
We have been calling since around 1pm
I have reached out to the Police CrU, they spoke to Dent and to the officers via his own phone (I don’t know why they can’t call the DpO directly tho).
The Complaints Unit instructed they release Dent and hold on to the products as no one has been able to accertain if the products are genuine or not because nafdac website is not going.
The Police officers at Iponri especially their DPO is angry that we escalated to Abuja and he said he won’t release him.
I don’t understand what goes on in that institution and we might yet witness another case of intimidation, extortion and torture by the NPF.
This is totally unacceptable
You cannot be angry the citizens escalates issues to the appropriate authorities and then you decide to do yoir worse,
A DPO is not bigger than the NPF
This should be looked into please
