The US President’s special envoy revealed the content of the discussions. The former US officer indicated that his country has proven expertise in the fight against terrorism, which it wishes to make available to Mali.
- He continued by stating that his country wants to support Mali in the face of the growing terrorist threat and consolidate bilateral and regional cooperation, particularly with the Confederation of the Alliance of Sahel States (ESA).
- The American counterterrorism expert also emphasized that his country’s counterterrorism strategy aims to develop effective responses while respecting Malian sovereignty.
For its part, the Malian side, through a publication by the press and information office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, informed Trump’s envoy of what the country wants to date. This is the resumption of Mali’s defense and security by the Transitional Authorities; strengthening the operational capabilities of the defense and security forces; taking into account the AES Confederation dimension in the fight against terrorism; and the need to engage in a sincere and comprehensive fight against terrorism. The Malian side did not fail to mention the support provided by certain countries to terrorists operating in the Sahel.
