Two brothers were sentenced to death by an Oshogbo High Court judge over armed robbery and murder—offences they apparently had no knowledge of.
There was no scientific evidence to prove the murder charge.

The brothers were sentenced to death based solely on fabricated evidence by the police.
They were linked to the crime by a police officer who had previously arrested the younger brother for breaking and stealing—a charge the younger brother also maintained his innocence against. The younger brother was arraigned before the magistrate court in Oshogbo but jumped bail during the process.
On October 17, 2017, somewhere in Oshogbo, the complainant lodged a report at the nearest police station, claiming that his High Lux van was stolen and that his wife was killed at her shop around 10 p.m. The complaint was referred to the State CID in Oshogbo. Incidentally, the case was assigned to the same police officer who had earlier arrested the younger brother. According to the complainant, this officer collected a large sum of money from him, promising to help track the culprit.
Shortly afterward, the officer was transferred from Oshogbo to Adeniji Adele, Lagos. To fulfill his promise to the complainant, the officer contacted the guarantor (master) of the younger brother, who had stood surety for him, and deceived him into producing the younger brother for a so-called POP job in Lagos. They arranged to meet at Berger.
As the younger brother alighted from the bus and they were discussing, the police officer suddenly drew his gun and shot the younger brother in the leg. The whole Berger area was thrown into chaos. With blood gushing from his leg, the younger brother was taken to the police station. The officer then summoned the complainant, claiming he had caught one of the robbers.
The police did not stop there. They also summoned the elder brother, who had stood surety for the younger one in Bayelsa, and shot him in the leg as well. Both brothers were arraigned before the court and sentenced to death.
Yes, the judge sentenced them to death, and the prosecution counsel rejoiced, claiming victory. The judge declared that justice had been delivered.
When will we have the judicial reform we have been demanding? This judgment is an insult to the intellect of the Ministry of Justice and the judge who delivered it. We have presented enough evidence, but it was ignored. We have appealed against the judgment since, but there has been no response from the Ministry of Justice yet.
