Umuaka presently has issues with security and new faces in particular sections of the town with a class of vehicles can get accosted by certain individuals to ascertain their mission in the community.

After watching the live video made by Okwuluora about his reported ordeal, it quickly becomes clear that he was apparently confronted by a certain group that later released him after interrogation without any harm or hurt.

Okwuluora made certain assertions that are inconsistent with the realities in Umuaka but portray the characteristics of Ezioha which is a notorious neighbour to a section of Umuaka. He averred that Umuaka is desserted and a ghost town and that only POS operators are in the place. This is manifestly inaccurate.

Umuaka is full of activities despite the undeniable security challenges that the town faces once in a while resulting from spillover from the infamous neighbouring Ezioha. It is incorrect for Okwuluora to make such statements about a town he doesn’t really know.

Okwuluora claimed that onlookers brought out phones to video them as he was being taken but no such footage has emerged in any Umuaka platforms. If such videos surface, it would enable possible geolocation of the exact spot where the incident occurred.

Okwuluora stated that the people that waylaid him returned all his belongings after questioning and provided security for him to leave the area up to the point of joining the expressway where he met Army and police roadblocks just two minutes away. This narrative indicates that the place described may have indeed been Ezioha in Mbaitolu LGA, Owerri Zone and the road Okwuluora mentioned appears to be Owerri-Onitsha expressway. It is easily verifiable that there’s no Army or military checkpoint anywhere in and around Umuaka. The only checkpoint you may see in the town is at Umuaka Police Station which is not Army roadblock.

Okwuluora also said that the individual whose account was used to raise money for the beneficiary of the fundraising he came to do in Umuaka was also taken from his home the following day. This may have occurred after revelations of Okwuluora about his encounter caused confusion in the town and certain local groups that had interest in the story but struggled to verify the accuracy could have acted to obtain more information about the incident.

The entire leadership of Umuaka was outraged about the adverse development and everybody sought for details and clarity regarding what actually happened.

We empathise and sympathise with Okwuluora and wish him well in all his benevolent endeavours. His experience on his visit to our town is deeply regrettable.
