The Kaduna–Abuja train has derailed, leaving several cabins overturned and triggering panic among passengers on Tuesday morning.

The exact cause of the derailment is yet to be confirmed, and it remains unclear whether there were any casualties as at the time of filing this report.

Authorities have not yet released an official statement regarding Tuesday’s accident but Eyewitnesses described the situation as chaotic, with many scrambling for safety during and after the incident occurred.

The derailment comes just a week after the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) reported another fault on the same corridor, when one of the train’s coach wheels developed a hot axle near Rigasa Station in Kaduna. The NRC explained that the fault, caused by excessive heat, was quickly managed and the train was returned safely to Kaduna.

At the time, the corporation warned of temporary capacity issues, especially for business class passengers, and issued an apology for the inconvenience

This latest happening has add to the history of the Kaduna–Abuja rail line, which has witnessed several incidents in recent years, including the deadly armed attack in March 2022 that left some passengers in captivity for months before they where released by their captives.
