“Security Agents Under Fire: Enugu Police Investigate Alleged Involvement in Fatal Shooting Of A Mercedes-Benz Driver”
Enugu State Police Commissioner, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, has vowed to uncover the truth behind the death of Smith Ojinaka, a young entrepreneur and first son of a popular politician from Umuaka, Njaba LGA, Imo State.
According to reports obtained from Eungu Force Ppro DSP Daniel Ndukwe, Ojinaka Smith was fatally shot near the Mercedes-Benz Company along the Enugu/Port Harcourt Expressway on October 13, 2024, around 1 am.
Preliminary findings indicated that Ojinaka was driving with two friends when a gunshot struck the vehicle, causing a fatal wound to his left hip. He was rushed to the hospital but pronounced dead, and his body has been deposited in the mortuary pending an autopsy.
The police are investigating allegations that security agents were involved in the shooting, but have dismissed reports linking the incident to police officers, stating that the ongoing investigation has not yet identified any police involvement.
CP Uzuegbu has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, State CID, to lead a comprehensive investigation into the incident, ensuring that all necessary efforts are made to identify and apprehend the perpetrators and ensure justice is served.
Umuaka, where Ojinaka’s family resides, is a city in Imo State with a population of around 100,000 people, known for its vibrant culture and trade.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with many demanding accountability and justice for Ojinaka’s family.
The Enugu State Police Command is urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in uncovering the truth.
