The release of the 4 french spies from Burkina Faso’s custody last month, angered many. The true circumstances surrounding their release was unknown at the time of their release .
Many suggested Captain Traore had been threatened with Military action, if he does not release them, or that Burkina Faso wants access to Morocco’s coast, which did not make sense to me either.
Recent report from French Newspaper Le Monde, indicates that a price tag of 15 Million Euros was placed on each of these spies, and that a total of 60 Million was paid for their release.
Many will agree that this was a good deal, and that Captain Traore knows the art of the deal.
These spies do not pose any present threat to Burkina Faso. Their threats has essentially been neutralise, keeping them for mere retributional purposes, would not have served the national interests of Burkina Faso.
However, receiving such huge sums for their release , will go towards Burkina Faso’s domestic priorities.
Furthermore, payment of this compensation by France, is a clear acknowledgement, that these 4 individuals were seeking to undertake illegal espionage activities in Burkina Faso.
A big shoutout to Captain Traore, for managing this affair in a manner that furthers the national interest of Burkina Faso, and imposes pain on France. Cecild84 on X
