About 12 years ago,my office had to intervene in one matter in a village called Purakayo in Guyuk. LGA. The indigenous Lunguda people had gotten tired of the shenanigans of the Fulani people and asked them to leave.
According to them,many years before, some Fulani guys had approached them for land to rest after grazing their cattle. This is how they came to most communities in the North. They will be given land to rest their cattle after “kiwo” and they feed on the remnants of the harvest from the farms.
But there was a problem. With time,the population increased astronomically (the day we went there,we could see almost 500 people, and they said it was not all of them). They gave that area a Fulfulde name and had a Jauro (ward head) who administered the area (even when there is a Lunguda ward head,a Hakimi and Kwandi Lunguda. Many of the indigenous People of Mayo-Belwa (the Sate, Gomla, Kugama and Chamba) lost their land through an elaborate scheme aided by the State government. The settlers started taking the indigenes to court for declaration of title and were winning. See story plenty wey I see for Adamawa.
I don’t know how the matter ended but considering it was under the government of Murtala Nyako, anyone who knows can take a guess.
In Numan,there is an area that has two names-a Bachama name and. Fulani name.
When the issue of Ruga raged, I was one of those who were vehemently opposed to it,while many of you were speaking English. I knew that with time,they will overshoot the population of the Reserves and move into the communities
Many are not aware of the mischief Babangida committed in Jos with the creation of Jos North LGA. If you see how the LGA was carved, you go know say Babangida na Devil SSA. Imagine that the palace of the Gbom Gwom Jos, traditional ruler of the Berom is in a Fulani and Hausa enclave. The Chairman,not an indigene.
Many do not understand what is happening in Benue State. It is not an interethnic fight. It is more than that. It is ethnic cleansing. Back then, there were actually Tiv people in Taraba and Nasarawa States but many of those communities have been wiped out. They are now concentrated only in Benue State and even in that Benue state,the area they occupy is rapidly shrinking. Most of the indigenes can’t go back to their villages and are either in other villages or IDP camps. Guess who is now occupying those areas? You guessed right. In terms of reproduction,forget those guys. Person fit born every year or even three times in two years sef.
In the next twenty years, you will be shocked those places will not be bearing Tiv names but Fulani names. It seems strange but down the lane,places in Benue will have Jauro, Ubandoma etc.
Not only that,once they have the required population, they will begin to determine who goes into the elective offices.
If you think they will be contented with just having Benue, you must be dreaming.
One thing I know about those guys is that they can be very patient and strategic. They know how to take their time,but they will try to achieve their targets.
All these things happening now were hatched a long time ago.
