The Kano State Police Command has called for calm and restraint following rising tensions triggered by the controversial religious preaching delivered by Sheikh Abubakar Lawan Triumph.
In a statement on Friday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the Command was aware of the heated reactions and concerns trailing the Sheikh’s sermons, which have sparked debates across different groups in the state.
“While we recognise the fundamental rights to freedom of expression and worship, the need to preserve public peace and order remains paramount,” Kiyawa stated.
He disclosed that on July 10, the Commissioner of Police held a closed-door meeting with Sheikh Lawan and initiated broader consultations with government officials, religious leaders, and community stakeholders to address the controversy and forestall any potential unrest
