ABEOKUTA – The Onibudo of Ayetoro-Budo-Ota, Ogun State, Oba Adewunmi Adeniji Odutala has called for the creation of the House of Chiefs by the federal government to allow more responsibility for traditional rulers in the country.
Oba Odutala said the establishment of the House of Chiefs would make traditional rulers in the country to curtail insecurity in their various domains.
He spoke at this year’s Festival of Praise held at his palace in Aiyetoro-Budo, Ogun State.
Odutala noted that royal fathers have big roles to play in checkmating insecurity, lamenting that governments at various levels have condemned the traditional institution to mere ceremonial.
He, however, maintained that until the government recognizes the traditional rulers, the ceaseless insecurity challenges facing the nation would continue to persist.
“Royal fathers have big roles to play. The government has made royal fathers ceremonial. Until we acknowledge the role of royal fathers, Nigeria will continue to experience insecurity. We have no constitutional role, until the government respects the position of royal fathers, and stops politicizing it, the security situation will continue to worsen.
“The government needs royal fathers to tackle insecurity. Please give us House of Chiefs, I am begging the government, to give us the House of Chiefs so that we can also have more responsibilities to complement the efforts of the government.”
On the annual Festival of Praise, the monarch said it was divinely inspired and thanked God for making this year’s edition a success.
The colourful event witnessed thrills and side-attractions as various gospel artistes held the crowd spellbound with soul-lifting music.
The gospel artistes included African Praise Apostle, Bois Olohun, Mosunmola Pearl, JPraise Anointed among others.
