The police said the suspect, Ibrahim Dangawo, was a terrorist leader operating in Katsina and Zamfara states, adding that his gang might have killed a former Jibia Divisional Police Officer, DSP Abdulkadir Rano, in 2022 in an ambush.

The spokesman for the Katsina police Command, SP Gambo Isah, confirmed the development in a statement.

“Also, unconfirmed sources revealed that six terrorists were buried in the forest today (Monday). Investigation continues,” the statement added.

A gang of terrorists had early Monday attacked the police checkpoint at Magama/ Hirji Junction along Katsina/ Jibia Road, resulting in Dangawo’s death.

Two policemen, who sustained injuries in the encounter, were treated and discharged.

Isah revealed that the incident occurred around 4.30am.
