Gunmen attack Police Station, set INEC’s office, residential building on fire

Unknown gunmen have reportedly attacked the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Ojoto, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

A source said the hoodlums burnt the commission’s headquarters using Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs.

The gunmen also attacked a police station in Nnobi, in the same local government area, and a residential building inside the station, where they killed a boy, and injured a girl.

The level of damage in the police station was, however, not yet ascertained at the time of this report

According to a source, the thugs used improvised explosive devices, or IEDs, to set fire to the commission’s headquarters.

The same local government area’s police station in Nnobi was also attacked by the gunmen, along with a residence inside the station, where they killed a boy and injured a girl.

However, at the time of this report, the extent of the damage in the police station had not yet been determined.

The incidents were confirmed in a press release by DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, the state police command’s spokesperson.

He claimed that the attack took place at around 1:45 a.m. on Wednesday, confirming that a large number of attackers arrived, and that four Toyota Sienna vehicles transported us to the scene of the incidents.

He further stated that in order to prevent similar attacks in other locations, the command had heavily deployed security personnel throughout the state.
