Breaking – Burkina Faso – New Chief of Staff of Gendarmerie After today’s ministerial weekly session,by decree appointed the man on the left, Lieutenant-Colonel Kouagri Natama as chief of staff of the Gendarmerie Nationale. He’s replacing Lieutenant-Colonel Evrad Somda, the man on the right who was previously holding the post. For those who are not Francophones, here’s the difference between the gendarmerie and the national police: the gendarmerie is a military force that is responsible for small towns and rural areas, meanwhile the national police is a civilian law enforcement agency that is responsible for cities and larger towns, alright ? Also, the gendarmerie is under the control of the Ministry of the Interior, and the national police is under the supervision of the Ministry for the Interior. It’s a little difference here. The gendarmerie and the national police each have their own rules, but they both obey a common code of ethics. Finally, the gendarmerie also fulfills a range of military and defense missions, including: having a cybercrime division, carrying out judicial and ordinary police functions. But here’s the catch, the gendarmerie is more heavily armed than the regular police. Now, the big question is what has motivated the change of the chief of staff? Remember, last week, our army and thanks to the people who took the street, the coup was foiled. Although the government didn’t give out names, they noted that 4 officers were arrested and 2 were on the run. What I know so far is that, those arrested have started giving out names of their accomplices, and there’s also a leaked audio of the incumbent chief of staff, where he mentioned that three of their comrades have been arrested. He urged his staff not to leak any information, but somehow, it got out. What I can’t tell is whether the 3 gendarmes who are arrested were part of the 4 officers arrested last week, or whether they are new accomplices. The government didn’t give out their names because, they know their families could be in danger. Why ? Remember, the people warned that they will wipe out any plotter along with his family who tries to sabotage this government. Unfortunately, based on the leaked audio, and rumors that some officers from the gendarmerie were involved, people in Ouahigouya, a town in northern Burkina Faso, went to vandalize the gendarmerie post over there. What does that tell you ? It tells you that Burkinabè don’t give a damn whether you’re the police, the military or the gendarmerie. After all, they too know how to hold guns. Once they know you’re involved in trying to sabotage this government, they are going to deal with you. That’s the message of the people. This is why last week Friday, Ibrahim in his interview told our people to be careful with rumors, and to always look out for the right information from them, less they commit the irreparable. Remember, last week, I warned some posters who put out the picture of the chief of staff of our armed forces, claiming that he took money from France via

and I told them to be careful because, they could pit us against the Ivorians. The chief of staff of the armed forces is still there, nothing happened to him. Anyway, though the government didn’t say that the incumbent chief of staff, Evrad Somda is an accomplice, this change tells me one thing: it was under his watch that 3 of his officers were arrested. Therefore, he must bear responsibility for this. The military justice is still conducting its investigation, and we’re all waiting for further details! Folks, that’s all for now!
