Narrating their ordeal to the News-Gazette Online, Mr. Henry Egesi said they were abducted while driving back to Umuahia from Anambra state where they attended a burial ceremony.

According to him, they were heading back to Umuahia from Anambra state with two vehicles a Lexus SUV and a Toyota Hilux Vehicle when they ran into some men carrying AK-47 rifles on sighting the men racing towards our vehicle dressed in all-black attire with Biafran insignia we tried to escape but unknown to us it was an ambush of over 100 men armed with sophisticated weapons, we alighted from the vehicle and ran into the nearby village only for them to come and march us out from the compound we ran into for refuge and took us into the forest where they are camped, they subjected us to severe punishment, torture and beating and afterward forced us to transfer millions of naira into an O-pay account.

When contacted Chief Emmanuel Egwu (ESERE) who was in the hospital corroborated the story adding that they were manhandled and beaten mercilessly forcing them to transfer millions of naira into an account they provided and only released them later in the night after seizing the Toyota Hilux Vehicle, jewelries and valuables they were traveling with, he thanked God for sparing their lives and prayed God not to allow even his enemy to have such a terrifying experience.

Mr. Egesi confirmed that the matter has been reported to the police and called on the government both at the state and federal levels to intensify efforts to secure the southeast zone while thanking God for sparing their lives.
