The last may not have been heard in the series of ordeals confronting the immediate past National Secretary of the PDP, Senator Samuel “Samdaddy” Anyanwu. At the moment, Senator Anyanwu, who was also the Imo state governorship candidate of the PDP in the November 11th election, is said to be grappling with the legal challenges emanating from a confessional statement at the Imo state police command made by one of his media aides, Owoh Mark Chisom, which implicated the Senator and one Ikenna Onuoha in the authorship of a seditious article that falsely accused Nze Ray Emeaña, former State Secretary of the party in Imo, of fathering some children out of wedlock and having affairs with married women.

Mark Chisom had been arrested over the publication which was directly traced to him, but he volunteered to tell the police the authentic authors of the defamatory material on the condition that he be set free.

According to Mark Chisom’s confessions, the article was written by the Chief Press Secretary to Senator Anyanwu, one Ikenna Onuoha, as was ordered by the Senator, and posted in a WhatsApp platform known as Samdaddy Media Squad. Continuing, the young man narrated how he was instructed to copy the article and push it out to various online platforms. He said he carried out the instruction without reading through the piece which he had been directed to widely share.

Speaking further, Mark Chisom regretted his action and pleaded for mercy, pledging to aid police investigations into the matter. Our source can also confirm authoritatively that Mark Chisom has gone ahead to write an apology letter to Nze Emeaña for the injuries which the publication might have inflicted on his reputation and that of his family.

Meanwhile, the youths of Owerri Federal Constituency where Nze Emeaña hails from are not treating the matter with kid gloves. A prominent youth leader from Emekuku in Owerri North, Mr. Kenneth Njoku, while speaking to our source on Monday, said the youths are preparing for a showdown with Senator Anyanwu over the matter.

Njoku was quoted as saying that Senator Anyanwu has established himself as a man who always seeks to destroy other people whenever he is searching for anything, without thinking about the consequences of his actions. He revealed that the youths are now fully ready for the former governorship hopeful over his thoughtless and reckless attack on Nze Emeaña.

Similarly, an Enugu-based human rights organization, Center for Democracy Social Justice (CDSJ) has mobilized fourteen other civil society groups in the Southeast to jointly write the Inspector General of Police in a determined and coordinated push for the immediate arrest and prosecution of Senator Samuel Anyanwu over the matter.

Giving details of this development, the Director of the Center, Dr. Ifeanyi Agbo, said to newsmen on Wednesday that the whole essence of their involvement in the issue is to ensure that justice is served.

His words: “The case involving Senator Samuel Anyanwu, where his personal aide has confessed to the police that he was instructed to make highly seditious publications against the person and family of Hon. Ray Emeaña is a very weighty matter. This shows the extent that desperation for power can drive some politicians.

“How can you destroy another man’s character, and falsely level unprintable allegations against him, simply because he left your political party? This is just horrible. Our attention was drawn to the debacle, and we have brought together fourteen other reputable groups in the Southeast to champion the struggle for justice. Our joint petition is already with the hierarchy of the police, and I can assure you it is receiving adequate attention,” he said.
