Angera recounted the harrowing experience, describing how the armed men, suspected to be bandits, surrounded the bus and began assaulting the passengers. Despite pleas from vigilante officers to proceed, the situation quickly escalated, with the attackers targeting everyone on board. In a desperate bid for survival, Angera and his conductor fled, leaving the passengers at the mercy of their assailants.

Following the gruesome discovery, the Taraba State Commissioner of Police, David Iloyonomon, confirmed the recovery of seven bodies from the forest during a patrol aimed at easing tensions between Ichen and Tiv tribes. The unrest stemmed from the reported disappearance of a pastor and a church member, leading to clashes between the two communities. Iloyonomon assured that security measures have been intensified to quell further violence and restore peace in the area.
